Medals for the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus awarded to over 30 veterans in Vitebsk
Jubilee medals "65 years of the Liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders" and honorary diplomas of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee for significant contribution to the development of the veteran movement and patriotic education of youth were awarded today in Vitebsk to more than 30 veterans of the Great Patriotic War, reports a BELTA correspondent.
At the solemn event, the soldier-liberators were congratulated on the upcoming holiday by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets. Presenting the awards, he emphasized that veterans are the honor and valor of the country, an example for all generations to follow. "Thanks to your feat, we live in a peaceful, prosperous country and achieve success in various fields," said the head of the region.
Care for war participants is an integral part of society's life, Alexander Kosinets added. In the Vitebsk region, on the occasion of Independence Day, Br1.5 billion was allocated for material assistance to veterans. At the same time, significant work is constantly being done to create comfortable conditions for them. Such comprehensive attention will continue to be paid to veterans, emphasized Alexander Kosinets.
The solemn reception at the regional executive committee was the final stage of awarding jubilee awards to veterans of the Vitebsk region. Previously, such ceremonies were held in all cities and districts of the region.
The Vitebsk region is home to about 6,000 veterans of the Great Patriotic War, 1,400 war invalids, 1,200 home front workers, 149 residents of besieged Leningrad, and 8,400 former underage prisoners of Nazi concentration camps.
