Vitebsk region medics have found resources to ensure that people with other diseases are not neglected
The coronavirus infection has made serious adjustments to the work of the country's medical service, shifting the focus of doctors' attention. However, it is incorrect to claim that all clinics are now "geared" only towards COVID patients. The President's position on this matter is as strict as possible: no one should be denied help – neither outpatient nor inpatient. We looked at how this directive is being fulfilled in the Vitebsk region.
Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Department of Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, cites the work of the region's hospitals and medical centers as a positive example:
— The Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital performs a larger volume of planned care compared to the pre-pandemic period; it remains a virus-free zone. In Dokshitsy and Glubokoye districts, where a significant part of the bed capacity is allocated for COVID, planned care is provided in inter-district centers. Slightly less serious operations are performed in small district hospitals in the region, where not all departments have become infectious disease departments either.
Medical care for children and patients requiring hemodialysis has been fully maintained. Surgical, neurosurgical, obstetric-gynecological, and neurological care is available. In the outpatient polyclinic link, the necessary balance between restrictive measures and offered medical services has been achieved.
Throughout the entire difficult period of the COVID-19 outbreak, the regional cardiology center has continued to provide planned inpatient and outpatient care.
In the last ten days, a stabilization of coronavirus incidence has been observed in the Vitebsk region: last week,The incidence exceeded hospitalizations. The growth rates of new cases are decreasing. It will be possible to speak more confidently about the region reaching a plateau next week, according to medics. However, as hospital beds become available, the work of all medical institutions will be promptly returned to normal.

— According to the staffing schedule, cardiologist examinations, dispensary and consultative appointments are conducted, — says Vladimir Lugovoy, the chief physician of this institution. — The early medical rehabilitation department for patients who have had an acute myocardial infarction continues to operate in the hospital.Patients are admitted for treatment to the first cardiology department of planned care based on referrals from polyclinics. We hospitalize emergency patients in the second cardiology department. The patient flow is normal.
