Мемориалы играют особую роль в патриотическом воспитании молодежи – Николай Шерстнёв
Memorials play a special role in the patriotic education of youth. This opinion was expressed in Rossony by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, at the opening of the renovated memorial complex at the burial site of soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters who died during the Great Patriotic War.

"Memorial complexes play a special role in the patriotic education of the younger generation. Annually, rallies are held here for Victory Day, Belarus Independence Day, and Pioneer inductions. Relatives and former comrades-in-arms of the buried come from CIS countries," said Nikolai Sherstnev.

He emphasized that the traditions of the Belarusian people include not only defending their native land from the enemy but also worthily preserving the memory of previous generations and working on the revival of sacred sites. According to Nikolai Sherstnev, there are over 1.3 thousand military burial sites in the Vitebsk region.

There are many memorable places in the Rossony district that testify to the heroic struggle for their native land. It is important that the public actively participates in the restoration and improvement of memorable places. In September last year, a subbotnik (volunteer work day) was held on the territory of the memorial complex with the participation of deputies of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies. This spring, during the republican subbotnik, the leadership of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, together with the residents of the Rossony district, continued this work: about Br300 thousand were allocated for the restoration of the memorial.

Nikolai Sherstnev also recalled that in June of this year, Br50 thousand were allocated from the regional budget for design work on the Museum of Combat Brotherhood in Rossony, which in the future should

to become a center of memory of the outstanding socio-political figure of Belarus, Hero of the Soviet Union Pyotr Mironovich Masherov. And in the year of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, it is planned to open after reconstruction the memorial complex "Rylenkі" in the Dubrovensky district.

The memorial complex in Rossony was built in 1965 on the burial site of about 2 thousand Soviet soldiers and partisans. Here are also buried members of the Rossony underground group, shot by the Nazis on September 16, 1942, including Pyotr Masherov's mother - Darya Petrovna. It was he who initiated the construction of the memorial. The complex is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus.
