Labor safety month is taking place in the Vitebsk region
Over the previous three months, 2794 organizations in the region and more than 11,200 workplaces were inspected, where over 25,000 violations of safety requirements were identified.
– The largest number of violations were found in agricultural and construction organizations. However, as a rule, they are minor, do not require financial or time costs, and are promptly eliminated, – reported **Sergey Kaminsky, Deputy Head of the Department of Social and Labor Relations, Wages, and Labor Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Committee for Labor, Employment, and Social Protection**.
The purpose of the current month is the prevention of occupational injuries and the elimination of violations of labor protection legislation in organizations of forestry, agriculture, construction, industry, energy, and other types of activities.
Compared to last year, the number of fatalities increased from 16 to 19 people, and those severely injured – from 48 to 51.
In the Vitebsk region, authorities and heads of organizations pay great attention to labor protection issues. However, despite this, over the 9 months of 2018, compared to the same period in 2017, the number of fatalities increased from 16 to 19 people, and those severely injured – from 48 to 51. The reason is the disregard for safety regulations directly at the workplaces.
As part of the month-long campaign, additional measures are being taken to strengthen labor and production discipline and create healthy and safe working conditions at each workplace: employees are provided with personal protective equipment, serviceable tools, machinery, equipment, and devices.
Mobile groups, consisting of representatives from supervisory and control bodies, centers for hygiene, epidemiology, and public health, labor, employment, and social protection departments, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Labor Inspectorate, provide methodological assistance to heads of organizations and specialists on labor protection issues.

The work carried out to prevent industrial injuries has allowed the Vitebsk region to achieve the lowest rate of occupational diseases in the republic and maintain it for several years.
