Public safety month kicks off in Vitebsk region on May 23

A month of public safety will start in the Vitebsk region on May 23, the committee for labor, employment and social protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. Operational mobile groups consisting of law enforcement officers, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the prosecutor's office, state labor inspectors, and representatives of other interested departments will visit enterprises, organizations, and social facilities in the region until June 22. The raids are aimed at identifying and preventing violations of labor protection norms and rules, labor and executive discipline, and are intended to promote the formation of a safe living and working environment for citizens, and to prevent accidents and disasters. An important goal of the work is also to foster a sense of responsibility and vigilance among employees. According to Sergey Anufriev, First Deputy Head of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the State Labor Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, one of the reasons for holding the month of public safety was the increase in industrial injuries at the region's enterprises. Thus, in January-April, 10 workers died and 35 were seriously injured in the region, which is 100% and 159% respectively compared to the same period last year. An increase in industrial injuries is noted in Verkhnedvinsk, Vitebsk, Gluboksky, Gorodok, Liozno, Miory, Polotsk and other districts. The main causes of accidents are the failure of managers and specialists to fulfill their labor protection duties, violations of labor and production discipline by the victims, safety requirements, as well as alcohol intoxication. -0-
