Local residents should take more initiative in improving their region - Vitaly Vovk

Local residents should take a more active initiative in improving their region. This opinion was expressed to journalists by the President's Aide - Inspector for the Vitebsk Region, Vitaly Vovk, following a field reception of citizens in Braslav.

"It is important for residents themselves to show initiative and approach the authorities with proposals," emphasized Vitaly Vovk. He expressed the opinion on the need to unite the efforts of local residents and representatives of authorities and cited a Braslav resident who attended the reception as an example. Having lived for ten years in Minsk, the man returned to his small homeland to raise his three children here. At the reception, a citizen who cared about his city made a number of rational proposals for landscaping, garbage collection, organization of bicycle paths, etc. "We suggested that he send all ideas for improving the city to the district executive committee. They will be taken into account when preparing Braslav for the regional festival "Dazhynki", which the city will host in 2019," noted the President's Aide.

Vitaly Vovk emphasized the importance of personal receptions of citizens. "They are an important link with the population, helping to understand how correctly the authorities are making decisions so that people live in their small homeland and realize their potential," he added. Regarding the reception held, Vitaly Vovk positively noted the work of local authorities: "Overall, it is evident that they are working with the population. Various topics were raised, including complex ones. However, there were no egregious, out-of-the-ordinary issues."

A local enthusiast searcher, an employee of the consumer cooperative, asked for financial assistance to organize an operation to search for an American fighter aircraft of the Second World War, the "Aerocobra," which made an emergency landing in a local swamp during the war. According to Vitaly Vovk, this is a very interesting and important topic. It is planned to involve military units, searchers, and other interested parties in its search.

The issue of flooding of several city streets during the off-season was raised by a family living on Bogdanovich Street. Given the relevance of the topic, the President's Aideinstructed to review the development project for the presence of a land reclamation canal.

Local residents also appealed regarding resettlement issues, termination of insurance payments, improvement of Leninskaya Street, construction of a parking lot for servicing the electronic booking system for crossing the state border with Latvia by road transport at the "Urbany" border crossing point, and afforestation of a section of territory near the "Druzhba" oil pipeline. Previously, according to the applicants, this territory was arable land. Appropriate instructions have been given on all issues.
