Local "parasites" from the suburbs of Vitebsk are "solemnly" sent to a correctional labor camp

This is how the local population fights the spread of alcoholism, the director of the Ruba Palace of Culture, Larisa Zvolinskaya, told a BELTA correspondent. The not-so-festive event brings together the elderly and the youth, the adult population, representatives of law enforcement agencies, and social services. It opens with a thematic theatrical performance "Fight Alcoholism, or When a Person is Their Own Enemy" at the Palace of Culture, followed by speeches from representatives of interested departments and public organizations. In conclusion, the "heroes" of the occasion are given the floor. It is with such dubious fame that local idlers are sent to the LTT. The sad notoriety of these people makes other alcohol lovers in Ruba think about their fate and public opinion, as the urban settlement has only 6.5 thousand residents. "Everyone knows each other here, and not everyone wants to become an object of ridicule and general discussion. Therefore, the method of public condemnation is very effective," noted Larisa Zvolinskaya. The head of the Zheleznodorozhny District Department of Internal Affairs of Vitebsk, Sergey Blazhevich, whose service area includes Ruba, provided figures. Thus, if for January-November 2008, 79 offenses were committed in this settlement in the sphere of family and domestic relations, then for the same period this year, there were 50. Methods of public condemnation, popular in Soviet times, are now actively used by the police again to combat alcoholism in small settlements and collectives.
