The International Watercolor Biennial "Water+Color" will bring together over 60 artists from 7 countries in Polotsk

April 5, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. More than 60 artists from seven countries have applied to participate in the III International Watercolor Biennial "Vada+farba", which will be held in Polotsk, the head of the "Art Gallery" branch of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve Larisa Lysenko told a BELTA correspondent. The museum-reserve and the public association "Belarusian Union of Artists" are the organizers of this project. Having designated the theme of the III biennial as "Watercolor Space", the organizers gave artists creative freedom to reveal the broad possibilities that watercolor offers to the master. Watercolor artists from Belarus, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine have confirmed their participation in the exhibition. As Larisa Lysenko noted, creative unions took part in the selection of works for the Polotsk biennial, so the best works of authoritative artists will be presented here. The opening of the biennial will take place on June 3, and the next day artists, art critics, and art historians at the symposium-conference "Watercolor as a Creative Space" will discuss the problems of contemporary art and get acquainted with the development trends of national watercolor schools. The exhibition will run until August 7, and on October 18, its grand opening will take place at the Palace of Arts in Minsk. By this time, catalogs of the III International Watercolor Biennial "Vada+farba" will be published. The watercolor painting technique has its history in China. Despite the fact that it was known in the Celestial Empire since the 2nd century AD, in Europe until the mid-19th century, this technique was not taken seriously. Such famous artists as Eugène Delacroix, Paul Signac, Paul Cézanne, and Wassily Kandinsky contributed to the development of watercolor. The revival of watercolor began at the end of the 20th century. -0-
