The inter-district cardiology department will open in May in Novopolotsk
A supra-district cardiology department with the capability of performing interventional procedures will open in May in Novopolotsk at the local hospital. This was announced to journalists by Vladislav Podpalov, the chief freelance cardiologist of the main healthcare department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
Over the past five years, high-tech methods for treating heart diseases have been actively implemented in the Vitebsk region. There are two catheterization laboratories operating in Vitebsk, one of which recently opened in Orsha, and starting from May, another will appear in Novopolotsk with the opening of the supra-district cardiology department at the city hospital. "Thanks to this, almost the entire region will be covered by providing European-level care to patients with acute coronary syndrome and myocardial infarction. Residents of Novopolotsk, Polotsk, and the entire district will be within a two-hour delivery zone to the supra-district department. If interventional treatment is indicated, it will be performed immediately, which significantly reduces the probability of a fatal outcome," noted Vladislav Podpalov.
The new laboratory will serve patients from the six nearest districts of the region if necessary. In the future, a catheterization laboratory will appear in Miory at the site of a future cardiology center, the construction of which will be the result of public-private partnership.
According to the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Center, high blood pressure is registered in almost 30% of the adult population of the region. Since 2010, the regional database of patients who have undergone cardiac surgery has been maintained at the center, containing over 2,000 people with implanted pacemakers. In recent years, the mortality rate from circulatory system diseases in the region has been decreasing: they do not exceed 47% of the total mortality structure (compared to 55-56% in Belarus).
On Heart Disease Prevention Day, which will be celebrated on April 18 this year, a hotline on cardiovascular disease prevention will be held at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Center. Calls will be accepted from 10:00 AM to
15.00 by phone 8 (0212) 52-69-27.
