Police awarded three residents of the Vitebsk region for their assistance

In Vitebsk, the traditional "Civil Courage" event was held. During it, police officers of the Vitebsk region honor citizens who have contributed to the disclosure of a crime. The event, which has been held for 8 years, is attended by dozens of people annually.

This time, among the awardees is Vyacheslav Lazarev, a cameraman for the Vitebsk regional channel "Nashe TV," who helped apprehend a robber. "In the evening, I parked my car in the garage and was returning home," he recalls the events of February last year. "I heard a girl scream. I turned around and realized that a big guy, running away rapidly, had snatched her handbag. I caught up with him and subdued him. Skills acquired in the martial arts section helped. I later learned that the attacker, whom I held until the police arrived, turned out to be a repeat offender.

Viktor Senko, head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, presented Lazarev and other winners of the event with diplomas and valuable prizes. Among the awardees were Polotsk saleswoman Nadezhda Belevich, who, along with a passerby, detained a robber who had stolen the day's earnings from her kiosk at knifepoint, and Novopolotsk seventh-grader Vladislav Zhdanovich, who helped the police track down a bicycle thief. Such people, believes Major General of Police Senko, make life in our country calmer and safer.
