The Vitebsk region police urge drivers to use parking lots

The Vitebsk region police urge drivers to use parking lots and car parks, BELTA reports, citing the official website of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

There are over 372 thousand units of vehicles in the region. The number of private cars increases annually. To ensure the safety of vehicles, the region has 289 parking lots and car parks with 22 thousand spaces, and 218 garage cooperatives, which have about 61 thousand garages. "Meanwhile, a significant number of citizens neglect this safety measure," the Internal Affairs Directorate emphasized.

In 2012, 683 vehicle thefts were registered in the region, which is 38.4% lower than in 2011. This type of crime is most characteristic of Vitebsk (44% of committed crimes), as well as Orsha, Polotsk, and Novopolotsk. 41% of vehicle thefts are committed through free access. "In addition, there are 30 parking lots in Vitebsk alone, with 21 of them having available spaces. If citizens were not so careless about the safety of their property, these thefts could have been prevented," the Internal Affairs Directorate believes.

The Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee strongly recommends motorists to use the services of parking lots and car parks.
