The Ministry of Communications and Informatization issues the postal block "Saint Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk" into circulation
The Ministry of Communications and Informatization will issue the postal block "Saint Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk" into circulation on July 4, the department reported.
The circulation of the 84 x 82 mm block is 20 thousand copies. Its production utilized the technologies of blind embossing and thermal embossing with gold-colored metallized foil. Saint Sophia Cathedral is the cathedral of Polotsk. Originally built between 1030-1060, it was destroyed in 1710 and restored in the mid-18th century in the Vilna Baroque style. Currently, the cathedral is part of the Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. The cathedral houses a concert hall and the Museum of the History of Saint Sophia Cathedral Architecture. The museum's exhibition includes fragments of masonry and fresco paintings from the 11th century, as well as the almost completely preserved ancient foundation. The concert hall hosts the international festival of ancient and modern chamber music annually in April, the international organ music festival "Zvyany Safii" in November, and organ music concerts are held every Sunday. The project was prepared with the assistance of the Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. On the day the postal block is issued into circulation, a special "First Day" postmark will be applied at Post Office No. 15 in Polotsk, Vitebsk Region.
