The Miory Metal Rolling Plant will build about 60,000 square meters of housing in 2022–2024
Steel Arguments
…On the outskirts of the district center, there is a whole microdistrict of new multi-story buildings. Cranes at numerous construction sites do not stop working even on weekends and holidays – housing in Miory is in high demand as never before. And if five to eight years ago, almost no school graduate stayed here, striving for large and promising cities, now the opposite trend is observed. Not only its natives are returning to the Miory region. A massive influx of migrants is registered here – from other regions of Belarus, as well as Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.Innovations Will Help
A huge territory, many buildings and structures, impeccable order, and workshops fascinating with their power… This import-substituting enterprise (its main investor is an Austrian company, and the equipment and technologies are German) cannot but impress. Here, a multi-ton annealing furnace cap smoothly rises, revealing the inner shell (muffle) of the red-hot metal. Further, cold-rolled metal in coils is fed to a skin-pass mill. Here, the steel thickness is reduced to 0.1 millimeters…The cold rolling mill consists of a whole line of complex high-tech equipment. And it was its commissioning, which took place the other day, that allowed the Miory Rolling Mill, which has no analogues in the entire post-Soviet space, to begin producing cold-rolled tinplate. Now the enterprise is ready to supply its first products to customers.
But the production of blackplate and cold-rolled annealed sheet is not the main task of the plant in Miory. The most important and in-demand product in both domestic and foreign markets will be tinplate. Currently, Belarusian enterprises purchase tinplate for the canning, perfumery, and paint industries abroad – approximately 30 thousand tons annually.
At the initial stage, the enterprise in Miory will be able to produce 150 thousand tons of tinplate per year – that is, it immediately becomes export-oriented. After the launch of the second stage, productivity will increase to 240 thousand. Tinplate from Miory is expected in Russia (where about 70 percent of this raw material is imported), andalso in the CIS countries, Europe, Asia, and America.
Ready to welcome everyone
The Chairman of the Miory District Executive Committee, Igor Kuznetsov, says:— The construction of a super-modern and unique metal-rolling plant in the region is, in essence, a lucky ticket. Thanks to the new enterprise, large-scale prospects have opened up for us in almost all directions. After all, in the future, as soon as the plant reaches its design capacity, the district's income from tax payments will increase by 50 percent. And this is a guarantee of stable development for decades to come. For example, this year alone, we are commissioning 7.6 thousand square meters of housing. In the last two years, we could not even think about such scales. There are over 500 people on the waiting list.
The plant workers themselves are also actively building apartments — a whole settlement of two-story houses has already been built. There are 48 comfortable apartments in the townhouses, and another 16 are preparing for housewarming. In literally a month, a 40-apartment five-story building will be commissioned. The head of the district emphasizes: according to preliminary plans, in 2022-2024, the Miory Metal Rolling Plant will build about 60 thousand square meters of housing. For these purposes, it has been allocated almost 20 hectares of land. Unprecedented pace in the history of the district!
The enterprise's staff (eventually about 600 people will work here) is growing. Families are increasing, which means that housing, educational institutions, and social and cultural facilities will be in high demand. Therefore, parallel to the ramp-up of the plant, which recently produced its first products, a number of new construction projects are being worked out in the region.
A grandiose project of foreign investors is the construction of a super-modern, high-tech German cardiology center with a helipad in Miory.
It will serve not only the employees of the enterprise but also the residents of five nearby districts of the Vitebsk region. Soon, a kindergarten, a polyclinic, and rehabilitation and shopping and entertainment centers will also begin construction in the district center.
The first stage of the Miory Metal Rolling Plant, into the construction of which about 400 million euros have been invested, will be put into operation in December. Its reaching design capacity is expectedby next summer.
Going to Miory!
Today, the Miory Rolling Mill is becoming international – Belarusians, Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, and representatives of other nationalities work here. Many of them have previously undergone training in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, and Russia. And for all of them, the Miory district has become a second home. For example, the head of the Quality Control Department, Valery Kvyatkovsky, and his wife Larisa moved to Belarus to the under-construction rolling mill two years ago from Chelyabinsk. In the Urals, the couple worked at a plant producing shaped pipes. The enterprise was going through hard times, production was declining, so they didn't hesitate long over the offer to tie their lives to Belarus. Valery Viktorovich says:
— We familiarized ourselves with the project and decided: the plant is interesting, the technologies are super modern. This is a unique opportunity to improve my professional level – I am a metallurgist engineer by education.
The Kvyatkovskys were given a two-room company apartment. They really like the Belarusian nature, they are delighted with the local lakes and the city itself. They feel quite comfortable in their new place.
Just like Damir Asanov, a native of Kazakhstan. He also moved his family to Belarus. He works as a cold rolling mill operator.
And the deputy production director Vladimir Dyakonov and the head of the central factory laboratory Evgeny Yagubkin came to Miory from Magnitogorsk. The chief engineer Sergey Priimenko is from Ukraine…
In the remote part of the Vitebsk region, new settlers at the plant are welcomed hospitably – together with them, the remote district is increasingly turning into an economically and socially promising region. It is interesting that the idea to build a modern enterprise precisely here belongs to a native of this region, who is also the chairman of the board of directors of MMPZ-Group LLC. And the investors were largely helped to implement the idea by state support for the strategically important project.
