The mystery play "The Passion of the Lord" will be staged for the fifth time in Lytupai, Postavy district, on Palm Sunday
March 26, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The mystery "The Torments of the Lord" will be staged for the fifth time on Palm Sunday at the parish of St. Andrew in Lintupy, Postavy district, the parish priest Father Pavel Knurek told a BELTA correspondent.
The tradition of staging mysteries originated in the European medieval theater. Their plots were usually taken from the Bible. In Lintupy, the entire performance will be dedicated to the last hours of Jesus' earthly life. The surroundings of the village will become the stage. Parishioners of the local church, about 15 people, will take part in the mystery, and other believers will become empathetic spectators. The Lintupy mystery has no acting text. The audience only listens to the priest, who narrates the depicted events, and music adds extra emotions to this unique performance.
"Our mystery is something in between a sermon and a theatrical performance. It is designed to awaken faith in people," noted the priest. It is expected that more than 200 people will come to watch the performance.
During Holy Week, spiritual retreats will be held in the parishes of the Roman Catholic Church to prepare for the bright holiday of Easter. -0-
