Metropolitan Filaret blessed the Holy Resurrection Church in Vitebsk for the successful completion of construction

On the feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, conducted a festive service in the ancient Annunciation Church in Vitebsk, leading the Divine Liturgy, a BELTA correspondent reports. Then Metropolitan Filaret visited the under-construction Holy Resurrection Church, blessing it for the successful completion of the work. As Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets informed the head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the reconstruction of this architectural monument of the 18th century began in 2001. The volume of investments for all construction work is about Br5.7 billion. More than Br2 billion of this has already been disbursed. The full restoration of the church is planned to be completed by July 1, and its grand opening will take place during the International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk". Alexander Kosinets also noted that in accordance with the reconstruction project for the historical part of the city, Suvorov Street, where the Holy Resurrection Church is located, will become a pedestrian street. In addition, the Holy Assumption Church is currently being restored, and in the near future, it is planned to lay the first stone of the St. Nicholas Church on Freedom Square. -0-
