The International Mother Language Day was celebrated at the Educational Institution "Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov".
On the eve of the holiday, at Vitebsk Secondary School No. 4, where a branch of the Department of Belarusian Linguistics of VSU has been operating since September 1, 2015, an event titled "And Our Language is from Under the Wing of the Soul" was held, developed by students of the Faculty of Philology.
On International Mother Language Day – February 21 – classes at all faculties of the university began with thematic information hours. Many speakers participated in the Belarusian poetry marathon, organized in the hall of the first floor of the main building of the educational institution.
The online festival in social networks "110 Years the Language Sounds at VSU" gathered over 130 video clips, where students, teachers, university staff, led by Rector Valentina Bagatyrova, recited poems by heart in Belarusian.
The culmination of the festive day was a thematic round table discussion, which was attended by representatives of the regional authorities and the deputy corps, the leadership of the university and the Faculty of Philology, students and activists of the regional organization of the Francysk Skaryna Belarusian Language Society.
