Youth of the Vitebsk region will celebrate the Day of Belarusian Student Brigades together with veterans of the movement, as reported by the Vitebsk Regional Committee of the BRSM.
Today, the youth of the region will celebrate the Day of Belarusian Student Brigades and, simultaneously, the 55th anniversary of the movement. Thematic events dedicated to the memorable date will be held throughout the region. Student brigade fighters, veterans of the student brigade and Komsomol movement, as well as everyone who is not indifferent to the activities of the brigades, will join the celebration of this important date.
In Novopolotsk, student brigade members of different generations will be able to discuss problems and prospects, and share valuable experience with fighters from the "Kvant" detachment named after Hero of the Soviet Union Zinaida Portnova and the "Energetik" detachment named after Hero of the Soviet Union Yefrosinya Zenkova. Similar intergenerational meetings will be organized in Glubokoye, Gorodok, Orsha, and Polotsk. Student brigade fighters from Vitebsk will improve children's playgrounds on Revolyutsionnaya Street, 24a, on this day.
In addition, on the festive day, youth throughout the region will participate in memorial rallies in the Postavsky district and Tolochin, labor campaigns, tournaments in off-arena laser tag and paintball, compete in intellectual games, and, of course, spend the evening by the student brigade campfire. The history of Belarusian student brigades began in 1963. It was then that students from 16 universities of the republic first went to the Ural region of Kazakhstan.
The first commander of the Belarusian Consolidated Virgin Land Detachment was a graduate of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute, Nolis Voronin, and the commissar was Vyacheslav Makarsky, a student of the Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute named after S.M. Kirov. The labor semester lasted 70 days. Students of the Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute drove the first stake of the new settlement named after Kurmangazy in the barren steppe, and the houses they built formed the first street - Studencheskaya.
