Youth project 'Tears of War': stands in different languages will help to learn about the events of the 1940s in the Vitebsk region
The war left many monuments and obelisks in the Vitebsk region, reminding of the 1940s of the last century. Considerable attention is paid to the improvement and preservation of this bitter heritage, as the silence of granite preserves the memory of those who won Victory at the cost of their lives. However, unfortunately, the modern generation no longer knows the heroes of the military past so well, and time erases some details of the combat operations. In order to preserve the past and tell about it to the modern generation, the project "Tears of War" was developed. Alexander Markov, Vladislav Baluev, and Denis Yurchak propose to install stands at obelisks and monuments with information about the battles that took place in these places and the people who played a decisive role.
– This would be interesting for both our countrymen and tourists visiting the Vitebsk region. The text on the stands will be in several languages. A barcode that can be read by a smartphone can also be placed. Thus, a person will receive information about the obelisk from the Internet, – said Denis Yurchak, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History of VSU named after P.M. Masherov. – Our faculty is ready to take on scientific consultations and preparation of information about the monuments.
The idea was noted by Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, when he got acquainted with the projects at the regional exhibition "100 Ideas for Belarus."
– This is a very relevant topic, as an important date awaits us – the 70th anniversary of the liberation of our region from the Nazi invaders and the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, – emphasized Vladimir Vladimirovich.
As the exhibition, located in the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic, showed, young people are thinking about solving problems that concern modern society. For example, Margarita Kolodinskaya, a student of Braslav Secondary School No. 2, who began studying the issue after an elective course on energy saving, knows ways to save water economically. The idea of saving water in everyday life and, consequently, the family budget was implemented with the help of physics teacher Olga Kuznetsova. The "105" adolescent support service is proposed to be created at Secondary School No. 1 in Polotsk; the education department of the administration of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk knows how to clean the city from garbage; and the mobile ecological theater of the Vitebsk region calls for fostering love for the native land from the earliest age. Here are also the projects "Family Club 'Buslyanka'", "Beauty in Motion", "Search for the Shrine"...
The exhibition featured about 30 proposals from young authors from many corners of the Pridvinye region. Participation in the republican project "100 Ideas for Belarus" gives them the opportunity to be heard and benefit society. That is why this initiative of the BRSM was supported at the highest level and received the approval of President Alexander Lukashenko. Now the "100 Ideas for Belarus" bus travels throughout the country and collects interesting projects. It was also seen on Lenin Square in Vitebsk, which became a truly colorful celebration. The republican "Idea Bank" was replenished with proposals from Pridvinye authors, and quite symbolically: in a huge envelope, accompanied by the flash mob "I Love Belarus!".
On the same day, the regional organization of BRSM summed up its activities in 2012. The first secretary of the regional committee, Dmitry Khoma, focused on achievements and existing problems. The deputy chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Terentyev, gave his assessment of the organization's work, emphasizing that youth is a great personnel potential, and the undisputed brands of the organization are youth employment and the creation of student detachments, volunteer activities, and participation in law enforcement. It is important now not to slow down the pace and, together with the authorities, to solve state-level tasks.
