Young parents today are poorly informed about a child's psychophysical development – expert opinion

September 23, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Young parents today are poorly informed about the normal psychophysical development of a child. This opinion was expressed today at a republican seminar for pediatricians in Vitebsk by Elena Nevero, Chief Pediatrician of the Ministry of Health of Belarus, according to a BELTA correspondent. "Parents sometimes demonstrate blatant ignorance on this issue and a misunderstanding of the consequences that lead to developmental disorders in children," emphasized the country's chief pediatrician. To avoid this situation, future mothers and fathers should remember that the foundation of a child's health is a proper routine, nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle. In addition, it is necessary to become more familiar with the basics of child development during pregnancy planning and its course. At the same time, during pregnancy, the woman and her family need psychological support in adapting to the new condition, emerging complications, and preparation for childbirth. After the birth of the child, their medical care is provided by a pediatrician. "However, we also have our weaknesses," noted Elena Nevero. Thus, pediatricians should constantly update their knowledge about adapted breast milk substitutes, the prescription of special therapeutic formulas, their interchangeability, and also periodically refresh their knowledge of the psychophysiology of children and the basics of feeding infants in their first year of life. The republican seminar of pediatricians, dedicated to the implementation of the "Children of Belarus" program for 2006-2010, is being held in Vitebsk on September 23-24. The event participants will discuss topical issues of providing medical care to children, share their experience, and also learn about the organization of work in this area in a number of medical institutions in the Vitebsk region. -0-
