A fraudster from Polotsk, who tried to deceive police officers, ended up in prison
A court recently heard the case of a 26-year-old woman from Polotsk who lied to the police, claiming her laptop was stolen at the Vitebsk railway station. It turned out the woman intended to profit from insurance.
Andrei Sukhorukov, assistant prosecutor of Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office, reported that the incident occurred in the autumn, and the fraud scheme was devised by the woman's cohabitant. He traveled to Vitebsk with her and purchased a laptop for 7 million rubles on credit, also taking out insurance against theft and other unforeseen circumstances. Soon after, the couple sold the computer on the street to strangers for next to nothing, spending the money on alcohol. When the funds ran out, the pair decided to earn more, and the woman reported the theft to the police.
However, after reviewing surveillance footage and thoroughly questioning the complainant, investigators quickly uncovered the truth, and a criminal case was initiated for false denunciation. In court, the accused did not deny her guilt and repented her actions. But considering that she had a previous conviction and an unserved suspended sentence, the court sent the deceiver to correctional facilities for one year.
