Marc Chagall Museums in Belarus and France intend to develop cooperation
The Marc Chagall museums in Vitebsk and Nice (France) intend to develop cooperation. Mutual interest in expanding contacts was expressed during the visit of representatives of the Nice museum to Vitebsk, as reported by Irina Voronova, director of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk.
Ani Dopfer, director of the National Museum Marc Chagall in Nice, and Blanche Grinbaum-Salgues, curator of the museum, arrived in Belarus to discuss the organization of an exhibition of Marc Chagall's works in 2017 at the National Art Museum (Minsk), dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the artist's birth. Upon arriving in Belarus, the French guests could not fail to visit the artist's homeland. In Vitebsk, they visited the Marc Chagall Art Center, the Art Museum, and the Marc Chagall House-Museum. "The two Marc Chagall museums - in Vitebsk and Nice - are interested in developing cooperation. Ani Dopfer has been heading the French museum for a relatively short time, and she was pleasantly impressed by what she saw," noted Irina Voronova. The director of the Vitebsk museum also expressed hope that expanding cooperation and establishing closer contacts would help dispel the stereotype prevalent in some countries that Chagall was born in a small village. "The guests were convinced that Vitebsk is one of the largest cities in Belarus, European in its coziness, hospitable, and carefully preserving historical memory," she concluded.
