The Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk held its first scientific student tour
May 26, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The first scientific student tour was organized by the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk. Its participants were students, postgraduates, and professors from the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Regensburg (Germany), as reported to BELTA correspondent by the director of the Marc Chagall Museum, Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya.
The tour program was developed taking into account the lecture course that the students attended at their university on the history of art development in Russia during the post-revolutionary period of 1918-1920 and the work of Jewish artists who worked in Vitebsk during that period. The Regensburg students familiarized themselves with the expositions of the Art Museum and the Marc Chagall Art Center, took a tour of the regional center, and attended several lectures on Chagall's activities as director of the Vitebsk Art School and on the Vitebsk period in his work.
According to Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya, the future Slavic scholars and their professors were very pleased with the program. Many students, after visiting Vitebsk, chose topics for their term papers and theses related to Belarus. In addition, the university's faculty intend to initiate similar scientific excursions to Vitebsk in the future and establish contacts with one of the city's universities.
The University of Regensburg is a coordination center for research on Eastern Europe and the former USSR countries by universities in the state of Bavaria and one of the founders of the Bavarian University Center for Contacts with Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. It coordinates academic relations and serves as a central point for academic exchange of students and scholars for countries in these regions. -0-
