The Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk is in demand among researchers of the artist's work - an expert

June 9, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Shagal Readings at the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk are a unique scientific event that brings together those who have something to say about the artist. This was stated today at the opening of the XXII International Shagal Readings by a researcher at the State Tretyakov Gallery, author of many art history publications, Yan Brook, a BELTA correspondent reports. "The Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk is a special memorial museum. It understands its purpose. And if at the first stage it served to restore the memory of Chagall, then now, after two decades, it helps to understand and enter his work," believes Yan Brook. The Shagal Readings are one of the central events celebrating the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall in Vitebsk. According to the Russian art critic, "the artist's anniversary, unlike many other round dates of famous masters, is not pretentious and pompous, but working." Exhibitions dedicated to the artist are held in all world capitals and major cities. "Chagall is a sought-after and desired artist. And his museum in Vitebsk is in demand by those who research his work, who want to be heard and understood," emphasized Yan Brook. The scientific conference will conclude its work on June 10 at the museum. Art critics, historians, and archivists from Russia, Belarus, and Latvia have shown interest in it. The focus is on issues related to the biography and work of Marc Chagall, as well as the history of the Vitebsk People's Art School. In particular, Nina Getashvili, Candidate of Art History, Head of Department, Professor at the Ilya Glazunov Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, will deliver a report on "Chagall and Pirosmani: The Boundaries of Naivety," and Alexander Lisov, a doctoral student at the Institute of Art Studies, Ethnography and Folklore of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, will present his materials on the biography and work of Kazimir Malevich, "Kazimir Malevich: A Choice Between the Capital and the Province. The Year 1921." The opening of the exhibition "History of the Vitebsk People's Art School. 1918-1923," based on materials from the State Archive of the Vitebsk Region, the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the "Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Art" Museum, and the Marc Chagall Museum, is timed to coincide with the start of the readings. As noted by Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya, Director of the Marc Chagall Museum, the interest in the topic of the Vitebsk People's School is due to the fact that Marc Chagall was at the origins of this educational institution, and work is beginning in Vitebsk on the creation of a new museum dedicated to the history of the famous educational institution. Last year, the Vitebsk Museum "Center for Contemporary Art" was given the building that has survived to this day, where the school was located in 1918-1923 and where its famous teachers lived: Malevich, Lissitzky, Ermolaeva, and other avant-garde artists. The collection of materials on the history of the school will begin with the current Shagal Readings. About forty events are timed to coincide with the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall in Vitebsk, which will be held throughout the year. The artist's anniversary will be celebrated in his homeland for two days - July 7 and 8. -0-
