A museum quarter is being created in Vitebsk

Музейный квартал создается в Витебске

A museum quarter is being created in Vitebsk, the head of the culture department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Larisa Olenskaya, told a BELTA correspondent.

In 2013, work will continue in Vitebsk on the creation of a museum quarter, which will be located on Kalinin Street, practically in the city center. Three buildings, which are historical and architectural monuments, will be allocated for museums. They will house the Museum of the History of the Vitebsk People's Art School, the Yuri Pen Museum, and the Marc Chagall Art Center will move into the third historical building. The restoration of all three facilities is included in the regional and city investment programs.

The concept for the Museum of the History of the Vitebsk Art School, founded by Marc Chagall and Kazimir Malevich, has already been developed. Discussions are still underway regarding what the museum of the teacher of famous artists Marc Chagall, Ossip Zadkine, El Lissitzky, and Solomon Yudovin will be like, but one thing is certain: it will also house paintings by Yuri Pen from the collections of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore. It is quite logical that the Marc Chagall Art Center will also be located in this museum complex.

According to Larisa Olenskaya, the creation of a museum quarter in the city center with developed recreational infrastructure will contribute to attracting visitors and create conditions for the further development of tourism.
