A man set himself on fire in his own apartment
June 7, Minsk /BELTA/. A man set himself on fire in his own apartment in Vitebsk, the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations told a BELTA correspondent.
On the evening of June 6, rescuers in Vitebsk responded to a call about a fire in an apartment of a five-story residential building. The Ministry of Emergency Situations workers rescued two girls from the burning apartment. They were not injured and told the firefighters that the owner of the apartment had set the fire, having doused himself and the room with gasoline and then set it on fire. His body was found on a bed in one of the rooms.
As reported to BELTA by the press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, the Vitebsk resident committed an act of self-immolation due to a quarrel with his cohabitant. During a heated argument, the woman announced that she would call the police, and the man, in response, promised to set himself on fire in that case.
The law enforcement officers who arrived had to talk to the troublemaker through a closed door, and then, in a fit of rage, the man carried out his threats: he doused himself with gasoline from a canister and set himself on fire. The fire was reported to the rescuers by a neighbor.
During the incident, two female students who rented a room there were in another room and, for obvious reasons, were afraid to leave it. Ministry of Emergency Situations employees rescued them through the window using a fire truck ladder. -0-
