The Beshenkovichi district territorial center for social services plans to open departments for adaptation and rehabilitation, as well as a social hairdresser's salon
The center began its activities 20 years ago. During this time, its capabilities have significantly expanded. Today, six structural divisions and seven social points operate here: stationary – in Ulla, Ostrovno, Bocheikovo, mobile – in Verkhovye, Sorzhitsa, Sokorovo, Drozdakh.
– Slightly more than 650 people from villages and settlements are under the attention of 82 social workers, – said Nina Rodich, deputy director of the center. – Single citizens living in sparsely populated areas are under special care.
There are also indifferent people among the residents of the district who are ready to take care of a disabled person in need of care.
– Three people have received a family environment in foster families, – added Nina Vyacheslavovna. – A guest family takes in several citizens for temporary residence on holidays, weekends, and other days. There are 13 patronage families who help the elderly with firewood preparation, grass mowing, weeding gardens, etc. Four people live in co-housing units.
“Old age should be dignified!” – the center’s staff is confident. Another testament to this is the round-the-clock stay department. Here, the elderly do not just live out their days; this place has become a native home for them, where their physical and psycho-emotional health is cared for.
– Despite their advanced age, most of our wards are very hardworking and have enormous creative potential. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to realize their skills and abilities, the Social Services Center has created three workshops in the following areas: woodworking, plant cultivation, and gardening, as well as numerous clubs and circles, – noted Nina Rodich. – Plasticine paintings, soft toys, straw figures, ceramic dishes – these and much more are created by the center's visitors. Elderly citizens also organize their leisure time with interest: they hold many events in which they actively participate, demonstrating their vocal, dance, and intellectual abilities.
The Social Services Center also pays great attention to the social adaptation of people with disabilities.
– In the adaptation and rehabilitation department, which is planned to be opened in the near future, assistance will be provided to such citizens in restoring their ability to function in the social environment, – said Nina Rodich. – In the future, we plan to open a social hairdresser's salon, where elderly citizens, disabled people, and other categories of socially vulnerable population groups will have the opportunity to receive services at a lower cost or even find employment.
