Under the passenger seat of the car, several boxes with 150 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition were hidden in a package. The items restricted for import were not declared in the passenger customs declaration, therefore, a check is being conducted regarding the citizen of Latvia for committing a crime provided for by Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code (Smuggling). The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to imprisonment for a term of 7 years with confiscation of property.
Customs officers remind that, according to the legislation, cartridges are included in the list of goods for personal use that are restricted for import into the territory of the Customs Union and export. Therefore, their movement across the border is allowed only taking into account the established restrictions and the availability of a written permit issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
