February 9, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. 160 piglets burned down at a private farm in Tolochin last night, Marina Fando, press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told a BELTA correspondent.
The fire department received a call shortly after midnight. The crew that arrived at the scene discovered an open fire at the farm and the collapse of the roof. As it was later established, 160 piglets aged 1-3 months died before the firefighters arrived. A residential building, agricultural machinery, and a hayloft were saved from the fire. According to preliminary data, the damage from the fire is estimated at Br30 million, while material assets worth Br50 million were saved.
Specialists are currently working at the scene, trying to establish the cause of the fire and find out why the alarm was received so late. Two watchmen worked at the farm, which belongs to an individual entrepreneur. By the time the firefighters arrived, they were at their workplace and were sober.
This is the second case of mass animal deaths at private farms in the Vitebsk region this year. -0-
