Nearly five vacancies for every unemployed person in Vitebsk region: why employers are looking, but job seekers are not in a hurry

Local newspapers and websites are full of advertisements: enterprises and organizations urgently need people. Over the past year, the official unemployment rate in the Vitebsk region has decreased, with only 1.9 thousand people registered in the region. Today, almost 8.5 thousand vacancies are offered to them. Where to find personnel? There is a reserve – according to the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection, almost every tenth able-bodied resident of the Vitebsk region does not participate in economic life. The total number of such citizens is over 62 thousand. Why are enterprises looking, and applicants are in no hurry?

At the Novopolotsk Plant of Technological Metal Structures, almost 400 jobs have been created in 2 years, and in the near future, about 50 more people will be able to be hired here.

On the way to each other

To provide a choice – for both employers and applicants – employment services actively hold job fairs. In August alone, several such mutually beneficial events took place in Vitebsk – employers were looking for drivers, construction workers, employees for internal affairs bodies, and medical and labor dispensaries. An unusual fair was held specifically for citizens with disabilities. Several city enterprises, as well as medical institutions, were ready to hire them immediately. At the beginning of September, another "viewing" is scheduled. The Vitebsk Meat Processing Plant plans to hire about 100 workers, and the House-Building Plant – about 70. The latter, by the way, promises a salary of 700 rubles or more. Inga Glushonok, Deputy Head of the Employment Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection, states:

— The demand for representatives of blue-collar professions remains high. We need milkmaids, machine operators, and general laborers in the construction industry. Agricultural enterprises are ready to hire chief specialists, veterinarians, and zootechnicians. One of the factors influencing the long search for personnel, especially in the agricultural sector, is the low wage level. For long-unfilled vacancies, milkmaids and machine operators are offered 360-370 rubles, cooks – 440, tractor drivers – 410, car drivers – 364, chief zootechnicians and veterinarians – 520 and 567 rubles, respectively.. Seamstresses do not want to work for 396 rubles, and sales assistants for 399. By the way, in the Vitebsk region, there are 35 vacancies in the national database with a minimum wage. About 250 vacancies offer a salary from 330 to 400 rubles. And only for 8 vacancies do employers offer to pay from 750 to 1400 rubles. This is the amount valued for the work of a chief designer, chief mechanic, crane operator, detachment commander, CNC machine tool and manipulator setter, as well as a dispensing pharmacist. But such specialists, you must agree, find jobs without the help of employment services.

Labor shortage

An interesting fact: the districts that lead in the number of people not employed in the economy are also at the forefront in the number of vacancies. In the Tolochinsky district, for example, they are ready to hire about 250 people. The Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Viktor Alkhimovich, does not hide: labor is urgently needed. Especially after the bankruptcy of the local consumer cooperative. Large retail chains are renting store buildings. They are opening their own outlets. But there are not enough sales assistants. They are ready to employ cooks and pizza specialists. And they offer a good salary by local standards – from 400-500 rubles and above. But there is no required number of applicants.

People are also needed at the Tolochin Forestry and the Kokhanovskoye Amkodor machine-building enterprise. There is a shortage of shepherds, milkmaids, and machine operators. Viktor Anatolyevich explains:

— The population still has a psychological barrier that formed some time ago: "I won't go to work in agriculture." But people there earn quite well, and there are no salary delays at the moment. Nevertheless, young people prefer to leave. Including for Moscow and the Moscow region. They go as nannies, caregivers, and janitors. At the same time, we even have vacancies for accountants and lawyers.

The situation in Gorodok is similar. But here, the proximity to the regional center and the Russian border plays a role. Some prefer to commute daily to Vitebsk, while others go to large Russian pig farms built near Belarus. It doesn't matter that the work with the neighbors is unofficial – shrewd employers even send a bus for Belarusian labor resources. The Deputy Chairman of the Gorodok District Executive Committee, Tatyana Voronko, lists:

— Over the past five years, two large dairy complexes equipped with state-of-the-art equipment in accordance with world standards have been built in our "Detskoselsky." They offer high salaries and good social guarantees. Workers are transported by company transport from Gorodok and nearby villages, housing is being built for specialists, and the staff is constantly expanding. People are needed in our newly opened sewing department of "Belvest" – now even shoe manufacturers conduct training on-site, so there's no need to travel to courses in Vitebsk. The salary is around 700 rubles. A large shopping center will be built in Gorodok – people will be needed there too. Several woodworking enterprises created in the district center and Yezherishche also need staff. 20 new jobs have been opened at the "House of Mercy" in Bychikha. You can get a job at the poultry farm and at the livestock complex in "Severny."

New Enterprises Are Hiring

Braslav District also needs people. The Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Elena Babinskaya, names the most in-demand professions: drivers, seamstresses, milkmaids, machine operators, and agricultural specialists. The city is undergoing large-scale landscaping.is preparing for the regional "Dozhynki" festival, so there is also a shortage of construction workers. Private business is actively developing: a company for the production of plastic windows and doors has been opened, and new production facilities for metal structures for the construction industry and electronic equipment for automotive technology will soon be hiring staff. Sewing enterprises that fulfill orders from well-known firms are expanding.

In a word, there is work to be done, if there is a desire. And the district commissions coordinating employment assistance are doing everything possible today to bring together the interests of employers and job seekers as closely as possible. To interest both parties in cooperation. Job fairs are not the only way to initiate a constructive dialogue between the parties. Need training? Please, employment services will assist in organizing courses. Relocation to another area? They are also ready to help and cover the expenses. In any dialogue, the interested participation of each party is important. So, those who seek will surely find: both a job and an employee…
