Br2.7 million will be allocated for the modernization and reconstruction of school canteens in the Vitebsk region
Preliminary results of the pilot project, initiated by the Ministry of Education, have shown that schoolchildren and their parents speak positively about the changes in the menu and the new nutrition regime. This project is planned to be scaled up to all educational institutions in the northern region, and several important organizational issues need to be resolved for this purpose.
"First of all, it is necessary to modernize and reconstruct the food blocks, including the purchase of new equipment. Br2.7 million will be allocated from the regional budget for these purposes this year. The issue of personnel also remains important. Currently, there are enough food block workers in all schools, but we need to look at the future. About 15% of school cooks are of retirement age, and young people do not stay in this field for long, so we will have to work on this issue and replenish the pool of specialists," said Vyacheslav Durnov.
Regarding the development of a new menu, the experience of the first three schools will be taken into account, but surveys will be conducted locally among schoolchildren and their parents, and the children's wishes will be considered.
"Overall, the pilot project has shown that students have positively received the innovations, and has also identified issues that need to be addressed locally. These are mainly organizational issues, as some schools have problems with overcrowding, and students need to be provided with meals according to the schedule recommended by the Ministry of Education. We will analyze the initial experience, involve specialists from the education system, and implement it in practice, taking into account all wishes," concluded the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.
