The first kilowatts were generated at the new power unit of the Lukomlskaya GRES

Commissioning works are currently underway at the station, and the turbine will soon be launched at full capacity.

This is a joint investment project with China. According to experts, the 400-megawatt power unit will be able to provide electricity to about ten districts of the Vitebsk region. At the same time, the efficiency is one and a half times higher than in the old units of the GRES, and the annual savings reach almost $30 million.

Alexander Bazylenko, Director of Lukomlskaya GRES: "A third less fuel, which means that the cost of goods sold, i.e., our electricity, is about a cent lower than at the operating station. If at the operating station it is 6.2, then at the new one it is 5.2, meaning the fuel component is 20% lower."

Electricity and gas supply tariffs were discussed in Novolukoml. An on-site meeting of the working group on studying problematic issues in housing and communal services was held here. Today, the population already pays almost 80% of the cost of a kilowatt-hour, but the debts of enterprises to energy companies have not decreased.

Alexander Yakobson, Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus: "Wages and energy resources are sacred, especially for our country, which has none of its own. We buy all of this through imports, and some allow themselves not to pay for energy resources for up to 45% of communal property. This is unacceptable."

Lukomlskaya GRES currently generates about 30% of the country's total electricity. With the commissioning of the new unit, this figure will increase further. Thanks to the modernization of the energy system in recent years, it has been possible to halve electricity imports.
