On half of the surveyed lakes in the Vitebsk region, fish are experiencing a lack of oxygen
March 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. More than half of the surveyed lakes in the Vitebsk region have dissolved oxygen content below normal, which poses a danger to fishing grounds. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Tatyana Yasiulina, chief specialist of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
The regional and inter-district laboratories of analytical control of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources conducted a study of 64 water bodies, of which 37 reservoirs have a dissolved oxygen content below the established norm of 4 mg/cu. dm, and in 5 reservoirs, a critical dissolved oxygen content was detected - less than 1 mg/cu. dm. The environmental agency is concerned about Lakes Lesnoye and Sitnyanskoye in the Liozno district, Lake Tserkovishche in the Glubokoye district, Belki in the Postavy district, and the artificial reservoir Golovo in Sharkovshchina.
As Tatyana Yasiulina explained, the most effective way to prevent winter fish kills in reservoirs is to equip them with ice holes - approximately 5 per hectare of area. It is recommended to drill ice holes both in the center and along the perimeter. In the Braslav Lakes National Park, technology came to the aid of fish: here they began to saturate lakes with oxygen using compressors, like in an aquarium. The committee also counts on the help of lessees and amateur ice fishermen in drilling holes.
Based on the rules for conducting fishing and fisheries, in accordance with the resolution of the Ministry of Natural Resources, in the fishing grounds of the Vitebsk region, due to the occurrence of fish kill phenomena, citizens are allowed to catch fish until March 15 without observing the commercial size and fish catch limit, and the fish catch limit for fish that have not reached commercial size has also been canceled. -0-
