Under the constant control of the environmental services of the Vitebsk region

The issues of ensuring proper sanitary conditions and improvement of public recreation areas on water bodies are under constant control of the environmental protection services of the Vitebsk region.

By the 2013 season, the city and district executive committees of the region adopted decisions (orders) on the preparation of public recreation areas on water bodies and on assigning specific organizations to ensure the maintenance of recreation areas in proper condition. In total, 239 recreation areas were equipped on water bodies in the Vitebsk region during the summer period of 2013.

The compliance with environmental legislation in places of mass recreation of people near water bodies was ensured by the regional committee, city and district inspectorates of natural resources and environmental protection.

During the past period of the summer season, the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, together with the traffic police and land management services, units of the regional center for hygiene, epidemiology and public health, and other interested services, conducted 744 raid activities, during which 148 violations of environmental legislation were identified. The most common ones are untimely removal of household waste, lack of containers for garbage collection, parking of vehicles at a distance of less than 30 meters from the water's edge, washing cars in the coastal strips of reservoirs.

Near Lake Lukomlskoye in Chashniki district, Lake Beloye in Postavy district, the pond in the tract Kovalevshchina in Verkhnedvinsk district - parking of vehicles; Bezimyanny stream near the settlement Lyatokhi in Vitebsk district - car washing; Lake Nedrovo in Braslav district - placement of outbuildings not equipped with waterproof cesspools, Lake Trosno in Polotsk district - illegal construction of a utility room by OJSC "Ilda"; Lake Yakovskoye and the Drissa River in Rossony district - illegal construction of bathhouses, and others.

Based on the identified violations, administrative measures were applied to 94 guilty persons in the form of fines totaling 9 million 120 thousand rubles.
