A young woman and two little girls died in a fire in Orsha
The deceased girls were 6 and 7 years old. The report of a fire in an apartment of a residential building on Mogilevskaya Street in Orsha was received by the MES duty officer late in the evening on April 11.
Rescuers left immediately, but they could no longer save the 28-year-old woman and two girls, aged 7 and 6, who were in the apartment. Furniture was also destroyed by the fire. The apartment where the fire occurred belonged to an unemployed 57-year-old resident of Orsha, the father of the deceased woman.
The cause of the fire is being established.
As later reported by the Investigative Committee, the deceased woman was the mother of one girl and the aunt of the second girl.
Investigators found that on the evening of April 11, a 57-year-old man, his 28-year-old daughter, and two young granddaughters were in the aforementioned apartment. Around 10 p.m., the whole family went to bed. The man was in one room, his daughter and two granddaughters in another. After some time, the man woke up to a crackling sound. Opening his room door, he saw that the apartment was heavily smoke-filled. The man realized there was a fire in the apartment and began to call his daughter and granddaughters. Receiving no answer to his shouts, he thought that his daughter and granddaughters had managed to run out of the apartment, and he himself hurried to leave the smoke-filled premises. Fire crews arrived at the apartment later; during the firefighting, rescuers carried the bodies of the young woman and two young girls out of the apartment. The man realized that his daughter and granddaughters had not managed to leave the apartment before him.
It was established that the source of the fire was in the kitchen. Experts have made preliminary conclusions that the death of all three was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.
The investigation into this fact is ongoing. A set of measures is being carried out to clarify all the circumstances of the incident and establish the cause of the fire. No signs indicating a criminal nature of death have been found. For final conclusions and findings, forensic medical, fire-technical, as well as other forensic, special and technical examinations have been appointed by investigators.
The Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Situations state that this is the fourth fire since the beginning of the year in which children have died. On January 29, in the village of Veselovo, Novogrudok district, a 33-year-old mother and her 9-year-old son could not escape from a burning house; on March 8, in the village of Natskovo, Mostovsky district, two young girls aged 7 and 6, and a 4-year-old boy died in a burning house; on March 31, in Shklov, a 2-year-old child, his grandfather and great-grandfather died in a fire.
