Br2.7 billion will be allocated for the restoration of the former Bernardine monastery in Dubrovno in 2013.
Br2.7 billion is planned to be allocated for the restoration of the former Bernardine monastery in Dubrovno in 2013, the head of the culture department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Larisa Olenskaya, told a BELTA correspondent.
The building of the former monastery, built in the early 19th century, is included in the state list of material immovable historical and cultural values of Belarus. It is one of the most interesting architectural monuments, shrouded in legends. The monastery was founded in 1630 by Mikolai Glebovich. After a fire at the end of the 18th century, only the church on the monastery grounds survived; all other buildings were wooden. In 1809, the monastery was restored by Prince Ksaveriy Lubomirsky, who, according to legend, set it on fire in revenge for the Bernardines marrying his beloved daughter to a poor nobleman without his consent.
The monastery stands on a high bank of the Dubrovna River. It is a two-story, T-shaped building with gable roofs, the ends of which are finished with triangular pediments. The building's decor is modest: pilasters, finely profiled cornices, belts, which is explained by the transitional style from Baroque to Classicism.
The restoration of the monument began in 1996. During this time, about Br1 billion has been allocated for it. According to Larisa Olenskaya, a significant increase in funding for restoration work planned for the current year will accelerate the process of restoring the monument.
A historical and local lore museum will be located in the former monastery. Unfortunately, the Dubrovno district is the only one in the region that does not have its own museum, although the history of the region is rich in various events.
As Larisa Olenskaya noted, Br7.2 billion is planned to be allocated for the implementation of the program for the preservation of historical and cultural heritage in the region during 2013-2015.
