A monument to an apple was erected in Sharkovshchyna

На Шарковщине поставили памятник яблоку

This took place in the village of Malye Alashki, the birthplace of the famous gardener Ivan Sikora.

The "Apple Spas" festival has been held in Alashki since 1999. This year, a monument to an apple was unveiled on the grounds of the Ivan Sikora Museum. The famous gardener bred many apple varieties, the most famous of which is "Pamyat Sikory" (Sikora's Memory). The monument was unveiled by the Chairman of the Sharkovshchyna District Executive Committee, Nikolai Bogovich, and the museum director, Natalia Perkhurovich.

During the celebration, Ada Raichonok, a well-known public figure from Sharkovshchyna, presented the museum with the famous gardener's manuscripts. She had preserved them because she knew Ivan Sikora personally. Ivan Pavlovich's house was also transferred to the museum.

Ivan Sikora (1885-1966) was an amateur breeder who developed about 500 varieties of apple trees, about 100 varieties of pears, over a hundred forms of hazel, as well as varieties of plums, lilacs, roses, and others. Ivan Sikora's son, Viktor (died in 2008), was a participant in the anti-Soviet movement in occupied and post-war Belarus.

In July, a monument to a cherry was erected in Glubokoye.
