Br1 billion will be allocated for the installation of traffic light objects in Vitebsk in 2013.
Vitebsk will allocate Br1 billion for the installation of traffic light facilities in 2013, the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate informed a BELTA correspondent.
The funds will be allocated from the regional budget. The traffic light facilities to be installed at the expense of these funds will be equipped at unregulated pedestrian crossings near the "Nika" store on Frunze Avenue, the "Vulkan" store on P. Brovka Street, and near the Ice Palace on Stroiteley Avenue. If the allocated resources are fully utilized, the traffic police do not rule out the possibility of additional funding to equip other problematic sections of the regional center with this equipment.
Currently, 90 traffic light facilities are operational in Vitebsk, installed at intersections and pedestrian crossings. Six of them, as well as 39 artificial bumps, were installed last year. The installation of these facilities is an effective measure to reduce accident rates, the employees noted.
In 2013, the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate intends to begin implementing another significant project – equipping patrol cars with video recorders. It is planned to purchase at least 15 units of this equipment for each region of the oblast.
