The city's coat of arms and Princess Olga were painted on Vitebsk garages

On September 14, Vitebsk hosted the street art festival "Gravitatsiya-2013" for the fourth time. As always, not only local street art masters but also artists from other Belarusian cities could take part in it. This time, participants from Gomel, Minsk, and Brest responded.

If in previous years the participants of "Gravitatsiya" drew on large sheets of fiberboard near the town hall or in the courtyard of the "European Club", this time they really had room to spread out – abandoned garages on Zhestkova Street were allocated for graffiti.

As the event organizer Roman Voronov said, the sketches of the works were agreed in advance with the housing and utility department No. 25, on whose territory the garages are located, as well as with the department of ideological work, culture and youth affairs of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee.

At each "Gravitatsiya", artists embody a specific theme. Thus, in previous years, it was necessary to depict "European Vitebsk", the problem of internet addiction among modern youth. The theme of this year's festival was "Vitebsk Ornament".

A well-known street graffiti master in the city, known by the nickname Ura, painted a tram – one of Vitebsk's landmarks. An artist from Gomel decided to depict the legendary founder of the city on the Dvina – Princess Olga. She turned out in a fantasy style, with a sword in her hands and blue rays from her eyes. And the Minsk artists worked on the ancient Vitebsk coat of arms. True, their heraldic symbol also turned out to be stylized. The Minsk residents decided to draw one of the cherubs in a dress, and the second – with a mustache. Another author of many Vitebsk graffiti, Predok, is a fan of scale, so he worked separately from everyone else. His painting occupied an impressive area on the garage wall.
