A badge for accident-free vehicle operation may appear in the Vitebsk region
November 25, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A badge for accident-free vehicle operation may appear in the Vitebsk region. This proposal was made today at a meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets and supported by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus Anatoly Kuleshov, who was present at the meeting.
"There is a need to motivate drivers and encourage those who comply with traffic rules," the governor is convinced. On his instructions, a regional road safety program for 2011-2013 will be adopted in the region, which will include funds for rewarding conscientious road users. The main sections of the program will address road repairs, traffic management, parking construction, quality vehicle repairs, and their financial support.
According to the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, 619 road traffic accidents were registered in the region in the first ten months of this year, which is 14 accidents less than in the same period last year. 115 people died, which is 41 people less, and the number of injured also decreased to 634 people. About 70% of traffic accidents involve pedestrians and horse-drawn transport, and in 20% of cases, speeding is the cause of accidents.
Despite the decrease in the number of accidents and fatalities, Alexander Kosinets believes that road safety in the region is not fully ensured. When developing the program, the governor demanded that attention be paid not only to the regional center and large cities but also to analyze the causes of accidents in small settlements. -0-
