The largest number of scholarships from the President of Belarus were awarded to young scientists of VGMU
Vitebsk State Medical University is a leader among medical universities in the country in terms of the number of postgraduate students who, based on the results of the annual open competition, became recipients of the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
A testament to the high level of knowledge provided and the quality of education is the fact that as many as five young scientists from Vitebsk State Medical University received state support for their contributions to science. The results of their dissertation research have already found application in the medical practice of healthcare institutions and the educational process. For example, Elena Dikareva, a postgraduate student at the Department of Therapy No. 2 of the Faculty of Retraining and Professional Development, is involved in identifying new factors and developing methods for preventing the risk of gastropathy caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Thanks to her work, many patients can avoid stomach ulcers and erosions. Elena Lebedeva is also among the best postgraduate students of medical universities for developing a new method for studying the mechanisms of development, diagnosis, and treatment of liver cirrhosis. She also proposed modifying a number of other research methods to make them simpler, reduce time, and use lower-cost reagents. Egor Krylov (Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy) developed and implemented a method for immunohistochemical assessment of hormone receptor status in breast cancer for the medical practice of healthcare institutions.
The competition organizers also highly appreciated the research of Olga Evdokimova (Department of Normal Physiology). She discovered a new mechanism for the stress-protective effect of thyroid hormones and scientifically substantiated the possibility of using some of them for the prevention of stress-induced diseases of this organ.
Natalia Korozhan, a postgraduate student of the Department of Pharmacognosy with the course of professional development and retraining, received a presidential scholarship for studying the pharmacological properties of a new, but already quite common in the country plant species – Bidens tripartita. In her research, the young woman proved the possibility of using the herb as an anti-allergic agent.
– The presidential scholarship is just one of the ways to support young and talented scientists, which provides an incentive for further work and development. 2015 has been declared the Year of Youth, which gives our generation even more opportunities to prove themselves in all spheres of life, – believes Natalia Korozhan.
In the future, such state investments in intellect will bring good dividends in the form of innovations, advanced scientific developments and technologies in production and other sectors of the economy.
