The largest floods in Belarus are expected in the basins of the Sozh, Western Dvina, and Pripyat rivers
March 18, Minsk /Elena Demeshkevich - BELTA/. The most significant floods in Belarus are expected in the basins of the Sozh, Western Dvina, and Pripyat rivers. This was announced today to journalists by Marina Nagibina, head of the hydrological forecasting department of the Republican Hydrometeorological Center, according to a BELTA correspondent.
On other rivers, the flood will develop calmly, without significant consequences.
Marina Nagibina noted that due to the winter weather conditions, ice cover and ice cover with openings persist on most rivers in Belarus. Only on the Neman near the cities of Stolbtsy and Grodno, on the Viliya near the village of Steshitsy, as well as on the Shchara, Mukhavets, Pina, Yaselda, Styr, Tsna, and Lan rivers, are residual ice edges and sparse ice drift observed.
Along the entire Pripyat River and its individual tributaries, water levels continue to rise with an intensity of 1-10 cm per day. On the Lyubansky Bridge - Chernichy village section, water levels are approaching dangerous marks, with 2 cm and 11 cm remaining to reach them, respectively. On other rivers, water levels are mostly stable with a slight decrease.
On the Pripyat River in the section from the source to Chernichy, its tributaries Styr, Pina, Goryn, Sluch, Stviga, Ubort, and Ptich, as well as on the Neman near the village of Belitsa, the Dnieper near the village of Loyev, and on the Shchara, Besed, Mukhavets, and Narev rivers, the water is on the floodplain.
In the next 24 hours, no significant changes are expected in the ice conditions on the rivers. Small rises in water levels on individual river sections will continue; on the Pripyat River near the city of Mozyr, the water will reach the floodplain. -0-
