Real brides with their grooms will parade in Vitebsk on City Day

June 22, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A parade of brides and grooms will be held in Vitebsk across the most romantic bridge on City Day, the head of the culture department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Natalya Shiyenok, told a BELTA correspondent. Unlike staged bride parades, which are held annually in Russia, Ukraine, and have recently started to be held in the Belarusian capital, Vitebsk on June 25, on its birthday, will showcase real newlyweds. According to preliminary data, about 15 couples will take part in this procession. First, they will walk across Pushkin Bridge, which is considered a lovers' bridge by local newlyweds and where couples hang love locks, then they will lay flowers at the monument to Alexander Pushkin, and finally, a theatrical performance and congratulations from the city executive committee with the presentation of memorable souvenirs will await them. According to the city statistics department, 759 marriages were registered in the regional center in the first 4 months of the current year, while in January-April of last year, there were 737. The parade of brides and grooms is just one of the many events that the culture department of the city executive committee has prepared for the 1036th anniversary of Vitebsk. The city will celebrate its birthday for two days, and, as Natalya Shiyenok noted, every citizen will find something interesting for themselves. Some will be able to listen to classical music concerts all day long in the courtyard of the old Town Hall, others will be able to draw a portrait of their hometown, and still others will gladly go on an unusual journey along the Western Dvina on a barge and see the tallest citizen. It is expected that representatives of twin cities will take part in the celebration along with Vitebsk residents. -0-
