The National Archives will prepare a series of document collections on the partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War
June 23, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The National Archives of Belarus has begun preparing a series of document collections on the theme of the partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War, Director of the National Archives Vyacheslav Selemenev told a BELTA correspondent. Today in Vitebsk, he took part in the presentation of the collection of documents "Vitebsk Region Liberated. 1943-1945", published for the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
The National Archives is actively publishing documents; five such collections have been published this year alone, noted Vyacheslav Selemenev. Now, archivists from the Gomel region have proposed preparing the collection "Partisan Gomel Region". "We have started working on this topic in close cooperation with the Gomel Museum of Military History," the interlocutor said. It is possible that a similar project will be implemented in the Vitebsk region. The collection of documents "Partisan Vitebsk Region" will be the second part of a series of three books united under the title "Memory of Vitebsk Region".
The first part - "Vitebsk Region Liberated: October 1943 - December 1945" - was prepared on the eve of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. The idea for such a publication arose after the release of the two-volume collection "Liberated Belarus" in 2005. "Vitebsk Region Liberated..." brings together documents testifying to the progress of the restoration of the national economy, culture, transport links, communications, and other areas of life support. From the documents, most of which are published for the first time, one can learn about the organization of the process of returning residents of the region who were taken to Germany and Austria. Special attention in the collection is paid to materials on the progress of demining the region's territory, investigating the crimes of the invaders and the damage they caused.
In total, the collection "Vitebsk Region Liberated: October 1943 - December 1945" includes 134 documents, including 25 materials from the holdings of the National Archives of Belarus, and two documents from the holdings of the State Archive of the Russian Federation. The publication is illustrated with photographs from the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents and regional museum institutions.
The theme of the Great Patriotic War occupies a significant place in the activities of Belarusian archivists, noted Vyacheslav Selemenev. Among the military-themed projects, he highlighted the unique reference book "Belarus in the Decrees of the State Defense Committee of the USSR", which includes documents of the extraordinary supreme body of power during the war. The project was implemented in close cooperation with Russian archivists, thanks to whom Belarusian researchers gained access to the documents of this supreme body of power. There are no analogues to such a publication in any of the republics of the former Soviet Union, emphasized the Director of the National Archives. Also, in close cooperation with Russian archivists, collections of documents "Belarus in the First Months of the Great Patriotic War", "On the Eve. Western Special Military District (late 1939-1941)" and other publications have been published. -0-
