The scientific conference in Vitebsk will be dedicated to the topic of medical support for partisans during the war years
January 23, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The organization of medical support for participants of the partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War will for the first time become the topic of a scientific conference at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Shmyrev, the museum's director Irina Shishkova told a BELTA correspondent.
Until recently, this aspect of combat operations and the daily life of partisans behind enemy lines had not received wide coverage, as the focus was on veterans and participants of the war, she noted. However, the events of the harsh war years are receding further into history, and there are fewer and fewer living witnesses of those events. Today, every fact of that terrible time is important. The conference plans to present the results of research by archivists and museum workers on this topic. An exhibition will also be organized, formed from photo materials, medical instruments, and personal belongings of medical personnel, including the planned deployment of an open-air exhibition complex in the form of a partisan dugout. The conference will be timed to coincide with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The M. Shmyrev Museum will also be the organizer of the already traditional scientific conference "Children of War," scheduled for April. The event will be a platform for presenting research results on several topics related to the fates of children during the war: "Children - Prisoners of Concentration Camps," "Children - Participants of the Underground and Partisan Movement," "Fates of Children - Participants of Military Events and Pupils of Orphanages in the Post-War Period," and others. For example, this year it is planned to more widely cover issues of organizing schooling during hostilities, as well as the topic of "Family Partisan Detachments," raised at the previous conference. The scientific study of military history, captured through the eyes of children, began in Vitebsk four years ago. Today, it is important for researchers not to overlook and preserve the memory of those who, due to the war, parted with their childhood prematurely, noted Irina Shishkova.
The Memorial Museum of partisan commander of the brigade, Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Filippovich Shmyrev (partisan pseudonym Batka Minay), was opened on July 5, 1969, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. Four exhibition halls are dedicated to various stages of the life of the legendary partisan brigade commander. On the territory of the park zone with an area of about 0.5 hectares, a sculptural bust of Minay Shmyrev by People's Artist of the USSR Zair Azgur is installed, and an oak alley planted by former participants of the partisan movement is located. -0-
