The Belarusian Language Week opens the academic year in Orsha
August 31, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The academic year in Orsha opens with a week of the Belarusian language, the director of the Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orshanshchina, Irina Voronova, told a BELTA correspondent.
The name of the event was given by the widely known appeal of the famous master of words Frantsishak Bahushevich from the preface to the collection of poems "Dudka Belarusian": "Ne pakіdаytsе mоvу bеlаrуsкаy, kab ne umyerlі!". Its main goal is to draw the attention of Belarusians of different ages, and primarily the younger generations, to the value of their native language.
A whole range of events will be held as part of the campaign. These include numerous book exhibitions and literary salons in city libraries, museum festivals and meetings, thematic excursions to places associated with the development of Belarusian writing, meetings with writers, and historical lessons of remembrance. Students from various schools will be involved in distributing informational leaflets to Orsha residents about the inclusion of the Belarusian language in the UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger. The culmination of the Belarusian Language Week will be on September 4. On this day, literary readings will be held near the monuments to Vladimir Korotkevich and a Belarusian song festival in the amphitheater in the Children's Park. At the city culture center, the troupe of the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theater will present the play "Pazychanaye shchasce" based on the play by Fyodor Polochanyn.
The organizers of the campaign are the Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orshanshchina, the departments of culture and education of the Orsha City Executive Committee. The idea of its holding is related to the inclusion of the Belarusian language in the UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger in 2009. -0-
