Неделя детской и юношеской книги стартовала в Витебске

The Children's and Youth Book Week has started in Vitebsk, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Tatyana Adamyan, Deputy Director of the V. Lenin Vitebsk Regional Library.

The event is aimed at promoting children's books and reading among children and adolescents. During its course, excursions around the library, literary evenings, games, contests, quizzes, and exhibitions such as "Books of the 2013 Jubilees," "Ringing Drops of Poetry," "A Book is a Kind Deed," "Living Planet," etc., are planned.

Additionally, the library's children's literature department is implementing a five-day project "Favorite Childhood Book," during which people of various professions from the regional center will introduce schoolchildren to their favorite children's books. For instance, today, People's Artist of Belarus Svetlana Okruzhna held a literary meeting with students of Secondary School No. 2, where she read a favorite passage from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" and discussed the book with the children.

In the coming days, participants of such meetings will include schoolchildren of various ages from other educational institutions in Vitebsk, as well as employees of the Vitebsk branch of the Belarusian Railway, the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the city's library system, and a surgeon from the regional children's clinical hospital. The focus will be on the works of Arkady Gaidar, Eduard Uspensky, Sergey Mikhalkov, Ryhor Baradulin, and other writers.

"Live communication with accomplished people of older generations during discussions and exchange of impressions about children's books will help increase the children's interest in reading, making their acquaintance with various authors more vivid and memorable," believes Tatyana Adamyan.
