Francophone Film Week kicks off in Vitebsk

The Francophone Film Week will be held in Vitebsk from May 16 to 22 at the Mir cinema, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the institution's director, Tatyana Yekomassova.

This year's Francophone Film program is organized for the first time in cooperation with the embassies of Bulgaria, Romania, and Switzerland. Vitebsk will screen 8 films from 1999-2012. All films will be subtitled in Russian.

The week will open with the animated film "Kerity, la maison des contes" (director Dominique Monféry), a joint French-Italian production. "Children's films are very popular with our audiences. Traditionally, students from Vitebsk gymnasiums who study French attend the screenings. Therefore, the animated film will be shown during daytime sessions for two consecutive days," emphasized Tatyana Yekomassova.
In the evening on the opening day, the public will see the French drama "Ceux qui restent" (director Anne Le Ny). On May 17, the program will feature the Romanian film "Totul pentru suflet" (director Nae Caranfil). Film enthusiasts will also see the Swiss film "Les Liaisons dangereuses" by the directing duo Elena Khazanova and Jean L'Hermite. The Mir cinema will screen the film "A Screaming Man," a joint production of France, Belgium, and Chad, directed by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun. The Francophone Film schedule also includes the film "Avanti!" (director Emmanuelle Antille) and Ivan Nichev's film "After the End of the World," a production of Bulgaria, Germany, and Greece. The Francophone Film Week in Vitebsk will conclude with the film "The Father of My Children," directed by Mia Hansen-Løve, a production of France and Germany.
