The Pyotr Masherov Memorial Week begins in Vitebsk

From February 9 to 13, Vitebsk State University (VSU) will host a week of remembrance for the prominent Belarusian political figure, after whom the university is named - Pyotr Masherov, Olga Puteeva, curator of the P.M. Masherov Memorial Museum, told a BELTA correspondent.

Today, VSU will host the opening of the week of remembrance for the statesman, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, Pyotr Masherov. "The museum is holding such an event together with VSU students and teachers for the second time. A special feature of this week of remembrance will be that many events will be held online. Anyone can participate in quizzes, quests, and marathons. This time, representatives of the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technologies of VSU have become activists in holding the week of remembrance," said Olga Puteeva.

After the grand opening of the week of remembrance, students will hold an intellectual game "Masherov's Quest," where they will need to answer questions about Pyotr Masherov's life. The main quest will take place in Rossony on Wednesday, February 10. This urban settlement was chosen as one of the important points of the week of remembrance not by chance. In 1941, at the initiative of Pyotr Masherov, a Komsomol youth underground was created there, which he led. In the district center, an excursion and an online competition "Masherov's Partisan Trails" about the history of the partisan movement in our country and, in particular, the activities of the prominent Belarusian will be held for students and everyone interested.

On February 11, the student active of the memorial museum will conduct an agitation tour "We are Masherovites" at the Zapolye Kindergarten - Basic School of Vitebsk District. An online quiz on the history of the BSSR will also be held there.

On Friday, February 12, students will read veterans' recollections of the "man of an era," whose name is honorably borne by one of the leading universities in the Vitebsk region, in an online studio. Anyone can join the online marathon.

The week of remembrance will conclude on February 13 with an online forum "Pyotr Masherov: Life. Destiny. Memory" at VSU, which will be attended by representatives of educational institutions from Minsk, Brest, and Rossony.
