Some medical facilities in Vitebsk are being repurposed for the treatment of COVID-19 patients
The number of patients with acute respiratory infections and coronavirus is growing in the Vitebsk region. "Beds have been allocated for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 in practically all central district hospitals. In Vitebsk, City Hospital No. 1, the Regional Clinical Center for Medical Rehabilitation for Disabled Persons and Veterans of Combat Operations in Other States, the dermatological department of the Regional Dermatovenerologic Dispensary, and two departments of the Regional Hospital have been repurposed. Currently, medical institutions have everything necessary for assistance: medicines, equipment, protective gear; 9 laboratories are operating in the region for disease diagnosis. A new one was recently opened in Braslav," noted Nikolai Kaspirovich, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee. Severe patients are transferred to regional institutions and inter-district centers.
In addition to the listed institutions that have recently switched to treating coronavirus patients, the infectious disease hospital and the Regional Center for Pulmonology and Phthisiology are also treating patients. Other medical institutions in Vitebsk may be repurposed in the near future as the number of detected cases increases.
Medical professionals remind: it is necessary to continue observing the mask regime, social distancing, and vaccination. Vaccination is available in almost all polyclinics in the region; vaccination points are operating in some shopping centers in Vitebsk. Over 162,000 people in the Vitebsk region have completed the full vaccination course. Recent studies show that vaccinated individuals either do not contract COVID-19, including new strains, or experience a mild form of the disease.
