A German investor will invest about 70 million euros in a waste processing project in Vitebsk

March 20, Vitebsk / Olga Davydova - BELTA /. CJSC "Vitebsk Polymer Products Plant" will implement a project for separate collection, sorting and processing of solid municipal waste. A German investor will allocate about 70 million euros for its implementation, the plant's director Yuri Galykin told a BELTA correspondent. Separate waste collection involves sorting garbage into two containers. One will be used for glass, plastic, paper, and textiles. The second is intended for food and heavily contaminated waste, hazardous and non-recyclable waste. Then the containers are taken to a waste sorting plant. Here, after secondary sorting, part of the waste will be sent for recycling. Waste that cannot be recycled will be packaged in special polyethylene film and stored in landfills. This will reduce the size of landfills by seven to eight times. Subsequently, waste cubes can be processed at waste incineration plants. "The Vitebsk enterprise has already received such proposals from Austria. They are even ready to pay for it," the head noted. The project is planned to be implemented in several stages over five years. Initially, it is planned to establish separate waste collection in the cities of the region, purchase special equipment and machinery for this purpose, and conduct extensive educational work among the population. The next stage is sorting, and then processing. The implementation of the project will allow for in-depth processing of household waste, create about 300 jobs, and the plant will be able to obtain practically free raw materials for the production of recycled products. The payback period of the project is from 3 to 5 years. The enterprise was founded in 2000. It specializes in the processing of solid municipal waste, producing polyethylene film and polymer raw materials from secondary raw materials. -0-
